I am considered a misanthropist now and then, because I do not socialize with many people. But it’s only my mind that avoids you, my heart is still with you, and seeks the distance so that it can keep on loving you.

Franz Grillparzer

Promise Yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticise others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words but great deeds. To live in faith that the whole world is on your side so long as you are true to the best that is in you.

The true optimist not only expects the best to happen, but goes to work to make the best happen. The true optimist not only looks upon the bright side, but trains every force that is in him to produce more and more brightness in his life.

Everything is in a state of flux, or change, and war and strife between opposites is the eternal condition of the universe.

The human body too, submits to its own unique array of dynamic tensions. Between all parts there is constant adjustment, coaction and strain occurring, to keep you as close to a state of equilibrium as can be achieved against an always changing stimulus, or environment. Perspiration, elevations in breathing and heart rate, losses and gains in body mass, are but some of these wonderful harmony chasing mechanisms at play. Stability is the goal, and an ever-moving one at that. The pound you gained or lost since yesterday may not mean all that much, so bring your thoughts around to the idea that there is a chance your body is according perfectly to its design. You will never twice inhabit the same body. Have this faith.

Different, human. Not separate.

It’s a Sunday afternoon you could be, and apparently should be doing something outside and more agreeable and instead the day is carrying on without your involvement this time because it’s been too many since you’ve been able to open your book. You’ve been busy. All week in fact and probably actually for longer than that, having forgotten the choices you used to have, and the feelings that a human gets to feel whose life is enriched and balanced by the guiding implorations of his own Nature. Can’t accustom to modes of recreation. Can’t seem to adapt without having a process to immerse in, or remember what things you do that are for your own souls recovery, and you now despise having to designate a gap to read, to write, to do anything of the things you enjoy when so much of this life is partitioned, allocated and dispersed already. Being has become exhausting and static, and you, jaded, trudging forward into grooves of chore and an obligation to just take part and be quiet, have somehow invited these dull perspectives by expending so much attempting to live in their opposition. Then, too many options was always the problem in the first place so you burned all your bridges to remove some of that noise, to be able to move forward unhindered, to somewhere or anywhere and not be stopped with indecision.
The day pales, wanes of its light and opportunity, and you let it. It is but a day towards other days the same and you are so tired, that the feeling as you drift into sleep is so exhilarating, you are charged to a more intense and fatiguing wakefulness. It depletes as much as gives, to be always wringing out what juice holds life. The pressure can be immense that you lay upon yourself, to contribute than rather detract in this world. To be always climbing, and calculating a climb, never having or making arrangements of an arrival anywhere, and withal missing the sunshine on a hill and the way birds seem to hang, suspended in the path of its golden rain, under rule of some primordial wisdom. Might well it be out there for all you know, finally the era for which you have been all this time labouring, when fortunes cycle has rounded, veering unto your position, and, for better or worse, you have arrived at the confidence that presently it simply can not matter. You don’t want or need to participate in everything so much as observe, and recover in quietude a wholeness of self, left behind. Tend there, soul and honour this gift. Sometimes, the drafts, or whatever mundane task needs doing needs for now to stay undone. Ever something will be undone, for all things can’t all at once accomplished be. Quit considering all the things considerable for once and accept the chance to sit and just listen to your beating heart and the flow of air coursing your lungs, escaping and blending with the atmosphere, with the melodies and pulsing of your entire being and a throbbing Universal aliveness that will incite tears in the eyes, sourced from the deepest wells of pure and rushing emotion dammed up since youth, and every bit a significant element of the human experience.

Mostly, the writing is a figuring out of things. A naturally occurring process which, when with interfered by my own confused and fearful intemperance, it is quickly understood that a necessary something is lost; A clear and perhaps sometimes simple – sometimes savage veracity, that retains yet a dimension of frightful grace and symmetry that I cannot tolerate yet for having no answer for as though one were needed, and the babel hides me well.

In the end, if you never stop to assess your defects, and that which makes you breakable but avoid an audit altogether as well the cost of progress, will you never know what reserves of honourable efficacy that propel you forward to better circumstances have been left dormant and unsummoned.

249: Be upright and steadfast

Be upright and steadfast. Go silently with purpose refined and follow your logical premonitions. Round the advantage. Distill your actions to the finest necessary. Say what isn’t improved unsaid, and in your goings, leave a thing as you find it or better for the encounter. Meet your enemies without conceit and overcome them with gentility. Give to the all, and against the rush of everlasting night, thrash hard.

231: The human duty

Direct your greater share of persistence unto endeavours nobler than confined to ones own advantage and personal satisfactions. For long life is not a prospect to the human condition that Creation has extended, despite the slow and regardless manner in which humankind dispenses, and here is yet much to remedy. There are worthy and wanting ideals that will outlive you if inside your compass of breaths, you would apply a convened and gracious potency to such efforts as may contribute to the welfare of the entirety, – for what is a nation that lunging ahead leaves behind a few citizens in sufferance, if fortune will upon the strewn advance allow success its charity to bestow?
This is the challenge befitting us all, that excellence calls responsibility.

Pay no more regard, whom diligently blights your renown, than is necessary to reveal from them the blacker aspects of your own nature.
